Birth Doula

Research has shown that having an experience supporter (usually a woman) with you throughout your labour can:

  • shorten the length of labour by 25%
  • reduce the need for pain relief by 30%
  • reduce epidural requests by 60%
  • decrease caesarean section rate by 50%

  • Enhances both the baby and mothers health at the birth
  • enhance the birth experience for both mother & father
  • promotes the possibility of successful breastfeeding

What is a Doula ?

A Doula is your own personal birth supporter or birth companion.  A doula is a woman experienced in childbirth, specially trained to give emotional and practical help, who help enhance the birth experience and guide you and your partner through the process of preparing for birth.  Doulas will also be with you both during labour, through birth and for a time following the birth if you wish.

Doulas usually meet with you several times during the pregnancy to provide information and help you write a birth plan so that you are clear about your choices and she is familiar with your preferences before the labour commences.  She will be on 24 hour call for two weeks before your due date and for as long as it takes past that time.  Doula's are available during that period to be called at any time should you need her. In labour she will you to meet the birth experience you were hoping for with encouragement and support and will try to protect the first precious moments with your new baby i.e. babies skin contact with the mother, soft voices,  dimmed lighting, only appropriate visitors, time for bonding etc.

My Doula service...

I have attended many births and have always been warmly welcomed by medical staff in the hospitals and families and midwives at home. It is an experience that is second to none, supporting a couple with the birth of their baby is a huge privilege and wonderful experience that I am always grateful to share.

Doula services are charge at £250 after a free consultation to meet and discuss your requirements.

The fee includes

  • a 2 hours Antenatal 1-2-1 session with you and your partner to discuss any specific concerns and look at the evidence that is available to help you make a decision about your birth, aswell as how to achieve the relaxed and calm birth you and your baby needs.
  • A 2 hour antenatal visit to prepare a birth plan and discuss any relevant issues
  • 24 hour call out to attend labour and birth, staying for a short while to ensure you are settled and confident
  • 2 hour postnatal visit to discuss issues such as feeding, bathing, sleep etc
  • Constant telephone and e-mail support for as long as you feel necessary before and following the birth
